I’m considering transferring money to Ally Banking. however, they do not have buildings like Bank of America. All their transactions are done on line. Since I can’t see them or talk except on line, how do I know that this not a scam?

My boyfriend and I had one credit card and we get mail that we have a debt with some other companies.The company we only have is Bank of America,and yesterday I got a letter that we are in debt that is about $500 dollars.I want to stop this before i get in debt.
Whats “everything” Are we talking about my social? My children’s names? My place of employment? My previous addresses? My cell phone number? What ?
This guy wants to buy my car. Im selling it for 1200$ He wants my bank account number and routing number to make the deposit. Is it safe to give him these numbers? Can he take money out of my bank account if I do?
We have our own separate bank accounts but we filed married joint. We will be e-filing but can we use the direct deposit into either one of our bank accounts? We just don’t want to have to wait the few extra days it takes to get a check in the mail. Thanks for any advice.
